SERUM LEVEL OF PROINFLAMATORY CYTOKINES IN PATIENTS WITH ANKILOSING SPONDILITIS TREATED WITH COLD MUD OINTEMENT.

OBJECTIVE: to evaluate anti-inflammatory activity of cold mud ointment on patients with ankilosing spondilitis (A.S.).

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

The applied treatment: progressive heliotherapy, cold mud ointment and swiming into the lake salt water to which was added electrotherapy kinetotherapy and massage.
25 patients (6 female and 19 male) composed the study group, 13 of them suffering of A.S. defined using ACR criteria and 12 of them with osteoarthritis. 20 patients did cold mud ointment and five heated mud treatment.
The patients were clinical evaluated and paraclinical investigated before and after mud treatment; serum level of TNFα , IL 1β and IL6 were determinated at The Research Center for Microscopically Morphology and Immunology from Craiova University and the other blood investigations at Techirghiol Analysis Laboratory.

DISCUSSIONS OF RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

After cold mud ointment all, the tree cytokines decreased. After hot mud, wrapping serum level of interleukins decreased and TNFα serum level decreased. After mud bath all, the tree cytokines increased. To the patients who have high serum level of cytokines we observe a significant decrease and to those who have normal level we observe the increase but in the normal interval of the values.
