We are most proud to inform you that our association will host the International Thermalism/Scientific Congress concurrent with the FEMTEC General Assembly as major events commemorating our 80th anniversary.
As the conference is also opened to non-FEMTEC-Member countries, we would like to invite the participation of many interested organizations and individuals as possible.
The place of the congress is the port Yokohama where Japan opened to the foreign countries in the 19th century after the long seclusion which endured more than 200 years. Yokohama city celebrates the 150th anniversary of opening of its port.
Since times of old and in many parts of the world, hot springs have played an important role in the treatment of diseases and various ailments. In Europe, especially, the relation between medical care and the use of spas has been so conspicuous that research results in this field are increasingly being applied even in the field of beauty care today. Turning to Japan, its abundance of hot-spring resources has given rise to numerous hot-spring resorts throughout the country which are thriving as centres of recreation and tourism as well as therapy. Research on hot springs in the past was devoted mainly to aspects of natural science, such as medicine, pharmacology and earth science. Today, however, we see a progressive shift in academic pursuits to include the social sciences such as economics, law and tourism as well as the humanities which include folklore, literature and history. Given that global warming is becoming an issue of serious concern for all of us who inhabit the Earth, effective use of the formerly discarded waste water of spas is coming to the fore as an alternative source of thermal energy that could help reduce the consumption of fossil fuels.
With the above in mind, the fact that Japan is hosting such a significant international congress on thermal spas and their utilization is bound to provide significant momentum for those industrial sectors concerned with the environment, health, tourism, and related activities. Not only may they benefit in terms of business revitalization, but they will also be able to avail themselves of highly advanced technologies and theories resulting from wide-ranging studies and practices pursued in various countries and regions around the world.
The foremost aim of the congress in Japan is to provide a venue where front-line researchers, both academic and industrial, as well as business executives from around the world can exchange views and information with each other through presentations and via discussions that encompass academic studies and technological developments. This interactive approach is sure to deepen relationships between those on the research side and those on the business side, thereby contributing to the furthering of technology exchanges. At the same time, the participation of international researchers from a broad spectrum of academia and industry will also allow us to present a comprehensive overview of what is transpiring in the diverse thermal spa-related arena. In addition to hosting the General Assembly of the internationally respected FEMTEC, we are pleased to host the International Scientific Congress concurrent with forums on the new and innovative utilization of hot springs which will also include participants from non-FEMTEC-member countries and regions as well. This, we believe, will result in far-reaching international benefit. It will allow us here in Japan to not only revitalize our own hot spring analysis and research but to disseminate worldwide our achievements as well as to enhance an appreciation of Japan’s unique «onsen» or hot-spring culture.

Мы рады, сообщить вам, что Международный научный конгресс и 62-я сессия Генеральной Ассамблеи Всемирной Федерации Водолечения и Климатолечения (ФЕМТЕК) пройдут вместе с праздничными мероприятиями, посвященными 80-летнему юбилею Японского общества бальнеологии.
Место конгресса в порту Йокогамы, где Япония открылась для зарубежных стран в 19-м веке, после долгого уединения, которое продолжалось на протяжении 200 лет. Город Йокогама празднует 150-летие открытия своих портов. Как и в прошлые, так и в настоящие времена во многих частях мира, горячие источники играют важную роль в лечении и профилактике различных заболеваний. В Европе, в частности, отношения между медицинским обслуживанием и использованием курортов было настолько заметным, что результаты исследований в этой области все шире применяются даже в области красоты сегодня. Что касается Японии, то она изобилует горячими источниками, это привело к созданию многочисленных процветающих центров отдыха и туризма, а также лечения.
Учитывая, что глобальное потепление становится вопросом серьезной озабоченности для всех нас, населяющих Землю, эффективное использование ранее сбрасываемых сточных вод курорта выходит на передний план в качестве альтернативного источника тепловой энергии, которая может способствовать сокращению потребления ископаемого топлива.
То, что Япония проводит такой значимый международный конгресс по термальным водам и их использованию, обязано обеспечить значительный импульс в промышленных секторах, касающихся окружающей среды, здравоохранения, туризма и смежных видов деятельности. Это не только может, приносить пользу с точки зрения активизации бизнеса, но также сможет послужить для самых передовых технологий и теорий в результате широких исследований и практики, осуществляемых в различных странах и регионах по всему миру.
Главной целью конгресса в Японии является предоставление возможности, как ученым, так и бизнес-руководителям компаний со всего мира обмениваться мнениями и информацией с помощью презентаций и обсуждений, которые охватывают академические исследования и технологические разработки. Этот интерактивный подход, несомненно, углубит отношения между теми, кто на стороне исследования и тех, которые на стороне бизнеса, внося тем самым вклад в дальнейшее развитие обмена технологиями.
В то же время, участие международных исследователей из широкого спектра академических кругов также позволит нам представить всеобъемлющий обзор происходящего на термальной арене.

Уважаемые участники Международного научного конгресса ФЕМТЕК!
Хорошее здоровье, по утверждению ВОЗ, — это сочетание многих различных аспектов нашей жизни: научные подходы, взаимоотношение людей, характер питания, сна, психо-эмоциональные состояния др. Оздоровление — это понятие, связанное с каждым человеком и обществом, окружающим его.
Мы переходим из мира прошлого, когда большинство людей обращалось за помощью специалистов, всецело принимающих решение за них, в мир, в котором на первый план выходит индивидуальное, семейное и общественное самосознание оздоровления и здорового образа жизни и советы экспертов служат дополнением к пониманию собственной ответственности за свое здоровье.
Мы находимся на этапе пересмотра отношения к культуре здоровья в рамках восстановленной медицины, изучая возможности адаптации организма к меняющимся, порой не простым, условиям жизни, направляя усилия на улучшение качества жизни. В этой связи бальнеология и климатология с каждым днем становятся все более актуальными.
В этом сборнике мы публикуем научные работы различных областей курортологии и восстановительной медицины.
Благодаря усилиям Всемирной Федерации Водолечения и Климатотерапии (ФЕМТЕК), основанной 72 года назад и официально аккредитованной при Всемирной Организации Здравоохранения (ВОЗ), мы имеем возможность обменяться научными и практическими знаниями.

Dear participants of the International Scientific Congress of FEMTEC!
Wellness, as WHO statement, is a meeting point of many different facets of our life: the scientific, the interpersonal, the way we eat, the way we sleep, the way we deal with our emotions. Healing involves interpersonal relation-ships between individuals and those whom they invite you to be in healing relationship with them.
It is clear that we are moving from a world in which we look to experts in health care to make decisions for us to a world in which we have recovered our ability, as individuals, families, and communities, to heal ourselves and to make the advice and skills of the experts, supplemental to our reliance on the innate human ability to heal.
We are in a period of redefining the idea of health and recovering the awareness that a life well lived is characterized by the ability to cope with suffering and to live life in presence of death. Medical Hydrology and Climatology, our western scientific traditional medicine, is more and more actually, now.
In this book we publish some scientific works in different fields of this Science.
Thanks to the efforts of the FEMTEC, World Federation of Hydrotherapy and Climatotherapy, founded 72 years ago and in official relationship with WHO, we have the possibility to receive this scientific contributions.
I should like to express my gratitude to the Organizing Committee of the Congress and to leading members of FEMTEC.
